When a robot is in contact with a person, safety is the floor, not the goal. The interaction also has to be intuitive enough that the person does not have to learn the machine, and adaptive enough that it follows them as their capability changes within a single session.

Research topics

  • Physical human–robot interaction (pHRI)
  • Adaptive and human-aware control
  • Impedance and admittance control
  • Assist-as-needed interaction strategies
  • Real-time interaction and safety
